Nine Hundred Acres, Mostly Left Alone
Anaqua Springs Ranch is a gated community of about 920 acres, and roughly two-thirds of that land is preserved as open Hill Country, according to a 2026 guide from LRG Realty. Custom homes sit on lots of about an acre to three acres or more. The same guide puts the population at a little over three hundred, which makes it less a subdivision than a large private ranch with neighbors.
The community is governed by a homeowners association and lies in Bexar County, though mailing addresses read either San Antonio or Boerne depending on the street. Even the school district depends on who you ask. Guides variously name Northside ISD and Boerne ISD, so confirm the assignment for your lot with the district. On the ground, the defining facts are simpler: quiet roads, long driveways, and a lot of darkness after sunset.
A Staffed Gate With Cameras, and What It Leaves to You
The entrance is staffed around the clock, and the LRG guide describes license plate recognition and perimeter surveillance as part of the setup. That is a stronger front door than most Bexar County neighborhoods have. It records who arrives by road and gives residents a real measure of control over traffic.
Preserved land, however, is not a wall. Nine hundred acres of brush and creek have edges that nobody watches continuously, and a gate camera sees the road, not your back terrace. The gate also admits the builders, pool crews, and service vans that a community of custom homes depends on. Think of it as the first layer. The second and third belong on your own property.
Preserved land is not a wall.

Reporting agency: Bexar County Sheriff’s Office or San Antonio Police Department (confirm for your address)
We could not verify any official crime figure for Anaqua Springs Ranch, so this page shows none. Part of the reason is geography. Real estate sources describe the community both as part of San Antonio’s far northwest side and as sitting just outside the city with a Boerne mailing address, and listings use both ZIP 78255 and Boerne’s 78006. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office patrols most of the county that lies outside San Antonio’s city limits. If your lot is inside the city, SAPD responds instead.
That distinction matters for more than statistics. It decides who answers a dispatched alarm and whose alarm rules apply. Before you install anything, call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office or check the city’s jurisdiction map to confirm which agency covers your address. We will ask the same question during the assessment and set up your monitoring account accordingly.
Distance Is the Problem a Siren Can’t Solve
On a quarter-acre lot in the city, a blaring siren gets a neighbor to the window. On two acres of live oak and cedar, it may reach no one at all. The useful alarm at Anaqua Springs is the silent one that reaches a central station and then your phone. Our 24/7 alarm monitoring uses cellular communicators, so the signal goes out even if someone cuts a phone or internet line at the house.
Long driveways also give you early warning, if you use them. A camera at the head of the drive, and a vehicle sensor that chimes inside when a car turns in, tell you someone is coming a minute before they reach the door. Security cameras with good night vision and properly set motion zones keep the deer from setting off alerts every night, which is the fastest way to get a household to ignore its own system.
Lighting does half the work on its own. Motion-activated floodlights at the garage and the back terrace make a visitor visible to your cameras and uncomfortable in a way darkness never does. On a property this size we usually recommend fewer, better-placed lights rather than a string of fixtures that turns the house into a beacon, which neighbors who moved here for the night sky tend to appreciate.
The Quieter Risks of a House at the Edge of the Hill Country
Large homes far from the next driveway are also slow to report their own trouble. A water heater that lets go on a Friday, an irrigation line that splits underground, a freeze that catches a pipe in an exterior wall. In a neighborhood like this, nobody walks by and notices water running out under the garage door.
Water, freeze, and temperature sensors on the same panel as the burglar alarm close that gap, and our fire and environmental monitoring treats a smoke signal with the urgency it deserves. Smart home automation can close a motorized water valve automatically when a leak is detected, which matters a great deal when the owner is away for the week.
Your Assessment, Gate Code and All
We are San Antonio Protection Services: locally owned, working since 2010, and licensed by the Texas DPS Private Security Bureau (license B16898). We work across the far northwest side and the communities along the Bexar–Kendall line, including The Dominion and Boerne, so long driveways and staffed gates are routine for our technicians.
On a visit we walk the house and the approaches with you, check cellular signal where the panel will go, and confirm which law enforcement agency covers your address. You get a written plan with options and no pressure to sign. Add us to the gate list and book your free security assessment.
