A Town Founded in a Garage to Stay Out of San Antonio
Hollywood Park grew up after World War II on what was then open country north of San Antonio. By the mid-1950s residents worried that the big city would swallow them, so they held an incorporation vote in a neighbor’s garage. On December 7, 1955, the town became official. A police department followed almost immediately, which tells you something about what the founders wanted from independence.
The town that resulted is small and stubborn about its character. It counted 783 people in 1960 and 3,130 in the 2020 Census. Lots are large, trees are plentiful, and most of the land is private residential property. Today it sits as an enclave near the junction of Loop 1604 and U.S. 281, surrounded by a city that kept growing around it.
The town keeps its own identity in small ways: its own government, its own police, and residents who like the quiet. Those same qualities are what make a well-designed security system feel at home here. Nobody wants a blinking sign in the yard or a camera aimed at the neighbor’s patio. The best installations in Hollywood Park are the ones visitors barely notice and burglars notice right away.
The Deer Will Set Off a Cheap Motion Sensor. Plan Accordingly.
Hollywood Park is known for its deer herd, and the deer are not shy. They graze lawns at dusk, wander past porches, and trip every motion light in their path. A camera system that pings your phone each time a doe crosses the yard will be muted within a week, and a muted system protects nobody.
So we tune for the setting. Modern security cameras can tell a person or a vehicle from an animal and alert only on the ones that matter. Detection zones can follow the driveway and the walk to the front door while ignoring the flower beds the deer have already claimed. Outdoor motion sensors get placed and angled with four-legged traffic in mind, so the alarm panel stays reserved for two-legged problems.
Trees create their own complications. Heavy canopy throws deep shade at night and can block a camera’s view as branches grow. We look at sight lines in every season, and we favor fixtures with good low-light performance over a ring of floodlights that would annoy the neighbors and the wildlife alike.

Crime report · Recent reporting
Hollywood Park doesn’t post a yearly offense table we could verify. What local reporting shows is a familiar pattern: car burglaries, vehicle thefts, and things lifted from front yards.
Reporting agency: Hollywood Park Police Department
We could not find an official annual crime count for Hollywood Park, so this page lists none rather than borrow a number from a site that estimates it. The Hollywood Park Police Department is the agency to ask for current figures, and Texas DPS publishes what local departments report to the state. What the public record does show is qualitative. A town officer told a San Antonio TV station that the problems here are the ordinary ones: burglaries, vehicle thefts, and property taken off front yards.
Community Impact has twice carried warnings from the town’s police chief, Shad Prichard. One described a run of car burglaries, mostly in the early morning, plus a vehicle theft. The other tied suspects to a car theft ring working Hollywood Park, Shavano Park, and other north-side cities. The lesson is not that the town is dangerous. It is that a quiet street next to two major highways is easy to reach and easy to leave, and that thieves who work a region don’t check city limit signs. Our notes on vehicle burglary and catalytic converter theft cover the driveway side of this.
What a Wide Lot Hides From the Street
Privacy cuts both ways. The deep setbacks and mature oaks that make a Hollywood Park lot pleasant also mean a neighbor across the street may not see someone walk up your driveway at 4 a.m. Car burglars and porch thieves appreciate a house that can’t be watched from anywhere else.
That shifts the job from the neighbors to the equipment. A video doorbell covers the front step and records anyone who comes to it. A driveway camera watches the vehicles, which in local police warnings have been the most frequent target. Door and window sensors on a monitored panel handle the rest of the house, so an opened back door at night gets a response even if nobody in the neighborhood is awake to notice.
An Older Town Deserves an Easier Keypad
The 2020 Census found that more than a quarter of Hollywood Park residents were 65 or older. Plenty of them have lived in the same house for decades and have watched several generations of alarm equipment come and go. Some still have a panel with a keypad that beeps in a language nobody remembers.
We keep the design simple for the people who actually use it. A clear touchscreen keypad by the door. A phone app if you want one and no penalty if you don’t. Fire and carbon monoxide monitoring can share the same panel. When an adult child lives out of state, they can be added to the notification list so a smoke alarm or an opened door at an odd hour reaches someone who can call.
If you already have a system from another company, we can often bring it onto our 24/7 alarm monitoring and keep the sensors that still work. Nobody needs to learn a new routine just because the monitoring contract changed hands.
Booking a Walk-Through of Your Hollywood Park Home
San Antonio Protection Services is a locally owned company that has worked across north Bexar County since 2010. We are licensed by the Texas DPS Private Security Bureau under license B16898. Hollywood Park is a short drive for our technicians, and we already work next door in Shavano Park and in nearby Stone Oak.
On the visit we walk the lot with you, note where the trees block sight lines, look at how the deer move, and check any equipment already on the walls. You get a written plan afterward. There is no high-pressure pitch and nothing to sign on the spot. It begins with a free security assessment.
