Timberwood Park Security When the Nearest Patrol Covers a County

A City-Sized Community With No City Hall

In 2010 the Census Bureau counted 13,447 people in Timberwood Park. By 2020 the count was 35,217. That is more people than the City of Cibolo counted the same year, yet Timberwood Park has no mayor, no city council, and no municipal police. It is a census-designated place in far northern unincorporated Bexar County, about 22 miles north of downtown San Antonio, along the US 281 corridor.

Living outside a city has its advantages, starting with the absence of a city property tax. It also changes who shows up when something goes wrong. Law enforcement comes from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies cover a lot of territory. A system that detects trouble early and reports it to people who can act on it carries more weight here than it would on a block with a substation around the corner.

Big Lots, Long Driveways, and Cameras That Can Actually See

Plenty of Timberwood Park homes sit on wooded, sloping lots where oaks and grade changes do their best to block a camera’s view. A single doorbell camera sees the porch and not much else. A truck parked halfway down a long drive might as well be on another street.

We plan security camera placement around sightlines, not around where the outlet happens to be. That usually means one camera covering the drive from the house, one on the side or rear approach, and lighting that gives night video something to work with. Footage is stored and searchable on your phone, so the question “what was that at two in the morning?” gets an answer in under a minute.

Crime report · 2023–2024

No official crime count is published for Timberwood Park alone. The sheriff’s office patrols it as part of unincorporated Bexar County.

Reporting agency: Bexar County Sheriff’s Office

Because Timberwood Park is a census-designated place rather than a city, there is no local police department and no city-level crime report. Calls go to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, which reports its figures for the whole unincorporated county, not for individual communities. We could not verify any official number that describes Timberwood Park by itself, so we are not printing one. Commercial crime-map sites do publish scores for the area, but their methods are not disclosed well enough for us to repeat them as fact.

What the sheriff’s office has said publicly is consistent with what deputies say across north Bexar County. In late 2023 it told KSAT it was seeing more vehicle break-ins and thefts, especially around the holidays. For figures covering your street, contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and ask for calls for service or offense reports in your area. And plan your home’s protection on the assumption that a deputy may be several miles away when an alarm goes off. That is no criticism of the deputies. It is geography.

Why Verified Alarms Matter Out Here

When an alarm trips, the monitoring center’s first job is to figure out whether it is real. A cat on the sofa is not a burglar. A door opened by a houseguest who forgot the code is not a burglar either. Dispatching deputies on false alarms wastes their time, and in a county-sized patrol area that time is precious.

Our 24/7 alarm monitoring works through a UL-listed central station that calls you first, checks the zone that tripped, and dispatches when it should. Pair it with indoor cameras or a glass-break sensor and the operator has more to go on than a single motion zone. That makes the call to the sheriff’s office more credible when it does go out.

The Hill Country Freeze Is Part of Your Threat Model

Burglars are not the only thing that can wreck a house while you are away. The February 2021 winter storm taught a lot of north Bexar County homeowners what a split pipe in an attic does to drywall, flooring, and a family’s spring. In a house left empty for a long weekend, water can run for days before anyone notices.

Fire and environmental monitoring puts water, freeze, and smoke sensors on the same monitored system as your door contacts. A leak under the water heater or a temperature drop in the garage sends an alert to you and to the central station. Our winter storm lessons guide explains where those sensors earn their keep.
